I’m a sheet metal worker here at BML and I got my start back 22 years ago when a fellow co-worker said that BML was looking for an apprentice and they hired me on then. I did a pre-apprenticeship program so after I finished my schooling they gave us a paid co-op and they sent us to BML and then from there on I just continued working here.
The application they put out there was what caught my eye because they were asking for project management, estimating, design, all of which I had no experience with but I was definitely interested in.
I do electrical takeoff, prepare estimates, I work with wholesalers when getting pricing and I order equipment for ongoing projects. Job duties are material takeoffs, site visits for consulting on HVAC piping and equipment.
Yeah it’s been awesome, like in comparison to a lot of different sheet metal companies, we do a lot more, different work as opposed to making straight duct work all the time. Right now I feel like I’ve had great progress and I’ve learned so much here.
Getting to work with all the different divisions as well as electrical has been very beneficial for my education.
Definitely the wide variety of work that we do. The best thing about working at BML is the people; people are great, accepting and inviting.
It is definitely a good place to work, like you can easily start and finish your apprenticeship here and you gain a lot of experience and a lot of guys that have been for a long time and have a ton of knowledge that you can get off of them.
BML is a really positive work environment there’s a lot of different skilled people here so everyone’s friendly. BML is a fast paced environment. It’s a great team environment. It was a really good co-op experience. Future co-op students should know that it’s very challenging here at BML but it’s rewarding in the long run.
